Welcome Downhill Fans and Thrill Seekers...
TRAIL |
DESCRIPTION |
|
Cheyenne Trail |
An easier, winding descent across the upper WP slopes. This wider single-track is a good warm-up for newer Mountain riders. There's some great little speed sections, and lots of rocks. Only around three miles, but lots of dive-offs for detouring onto... |
|
Long Trail (1/2) |
Long Trail is open from Zephyr Express to the Base Area. We loved this trail... it just plain kicks ass! Requires solid technical skills: and if you have them, this run is built for speed! Watch out for slower riders in your path. Twisty fast turns and continuous singletrack get you back down to the base area in 6.7 miles. Lots of chances to extend the adventure along the way. |
|
Upper Arapahoe (biking only) |
A steeper descent with quick, dry surfaces for serious riders and racers-in-training. Fast, with some tight singletrack. Some nice Apsen stands along the way. This trail is closed to hikers. |
|
Upper Roof of the Rockies |
A healthy climb crossing upper sections of the Mary Jane ski trail, then on to a beautifully wooded, winding trail. This trail will then intersect with the Lower Roof trail. Physically demanding. |
|
Lower Roof of the Rockies |
A moderately ascending single-track trail that makes for an energizing climb up to Fantasy Meadow, and on to Mountain Goat. |
|
Gunbarrel |
A short access road connecting Lower Roof of the Rockies and the Long Trail. Take time to enjoy the view from the top of Pioneer Express lift. Reasonably easy physically & technically. |
| Fantasy Meadow | A beautiful loop with views of Vasquez cirque and colorful wildflowers. A nice detour from Lower Roof. |
|
Mountain Goat |
Most technical, challenging trail -- experts only! Killer singletrack with speed. Serious rock and boulder maneuvers. This one is usually open later in the season. Less experienced riders will only be frustrated on this romp. We kind of enjoyed the obstacles ...and mortal danger. Check speed, extremely dangerous sections |
|
Lonesome Whistle |
Old jeep road with large water bars and steep descents. Fast and fun- stay in control. You can really fly on this one! This trail is quite short (<3miles), but offers an intermediate technical run-at speed. Minor physical challenge; steady climbing back up Little Vasquez to Lower Arapahoe, or on to Long Trail. Yee-haa!. |
|
Arapahoe |
Winding through the trees is a great way to add an extra "loop" to your Long Trail experience. Look for this trailhead just north of the five-points intersection. . |
|
Lower Arapahoe (1/2) |
... FULL LENGTH from LITTLE VASQUEZ ROAD to UPPER CHEROKEE INTERSECTION This trail is an excellent advanced technical & physical jump-off. Steep switchbacks with cool view. Nice little forest section too. Speedy one, check your brakes! |
|
Upper Cherokee |
... FULL LENGTH to TUNNEL HILL. Lower Cherokee is also open below T. HILL |
| Sorenson Park Loop | 1/4-mile practice loop for beginners and students in mountain bike clinics. A great place to get started. |
| Ute Hiking Trail | Projected opening in July 98 |
| Nystrom Hiking Trail | Will open as tundra surface conditions permit. Rugged trail leading into the Vasquez Wilderness beyond the tree-line. Incredible views. Weather is unpredictable, be prepared! |
